Meals on Wheels
Meals on Wheels dates back to 1939 in Great Britain during World War II when many people lost their homes and were unable to care for themselves. At that time, the Women's Volunteer Service for Civil Defense prepared and delivered meals to their disadvantaged neighbors. These same women also brought canteens to servicemen during the war. Eventually, the canteens became known as "Meals on Wheels". And so the concept was born that would develop into the program that exists today.
The PPJWC is proud to carry on this tradition of helping those in our community who are unable to take care of themselves by partnering with Meals on Wheels West. The PPJWC "adopted a route", and each Wednesday our members are the "wheels" who pick up nutritious meals and deliver them to numerous shut-ins throughout our area.
